Hey! This is Erick Velazquez, your crazy Mexican friend, and I’m glad that you are here; please feel welcome to mi casa! This is my space where I share with you my adventures in becoming an oil painting artist. My goal: to become a portraitist
For the moment, this blog may seem messy, but please be patient; I am working on the structure and organization. Until now, how will this work? Well, I decided to document my practices, and share with you the process of learning, trials and errors I encounter during this adventure. I will post updates every month to show where I am. I will share pictures of my drawings and paintings.
I’ve recently started drawing every day for at least 30 minutes. My efforts are paying off, and I am very happy with the results. However, the journey is long and quite heavy, I must say. Finding motivation to grow personally and doing art solely for the love of it can sometimes be very challenging. Here’s the good news: this is where you, my friend, come into play! I was once told that I should continue creating art and sharing it with the people I care about, so I decided to make this blog to share my art with you. We met at some point, and you left a mark on my life, and I want to celebrate and thank that moment. Also, your presence here is a great motivation for me and pushes me further. So please share your thoughts with me or comment on my publications.
So what are you going to find here:
- Drawings, lots of them!
- Quick sketches, some of them crazy!
- Paintings in water colours, primarily gouache.
- Drawings/paintings with acrylic markers. I am fascinated by their ease of use.
- Drawings/paintings on pastels! I love what I can do with pastels. It is easy to get a result in hours.
- Oil paintings, some of them would be flowers and still life, in the good old tradition.
- Portraits! Many of them !!
- Stories of the people I paint/draw and how we met!
- More stories of my travels; I recently visited the National Gallery in Ottawa. My gosh!!! I lost track of time there, so I will share that with you too.
- My personal story, as you may have guessed, and probably as you are asking for it: a mix of Mexican telenovela drama, German punctuality (actually the opposite), Canadian kindness, Quebecois passion, and, of course, a lot of Dutch coziness (gezelig).
If you are reading this, it is because I probably talked to you about my dreams and about drawing people’s faces and the problems I encounter. I have mentioned my interest of drawing people’s faces but my impostor syndrome is very heavy to ignore so I decided to take action and go for it! So, this is it. I am serious about it and this is my first blog publication! So, alea iacta est!
My next publications would be the last weekend of each month!
